Drainage & Sump Pumps are used to drain excess water from places like pits, basements, storage tanks, storm water, flooded areas and drainage systems. They are usually used when there is water in low areas which requires to be drained off immediately and effectively.

They are ideal for use in both residential and commercial premises where drainage of water is required.

Drainage pumps can be employed for moving clean water or mildly contaminated water out of places like pits, tanks, ponds or areas which have water accumulated in them. Sump pumps are normally used in sump pits and remove water automatically as its level increases.

Both kinds of pumps are made for pumping out water, but there are several factors that determine what kind of pump would suit better in particular circumstances.

While some Drainage & Sump Pumps are capable of handling dirty water or even solids, this varies depending on the pump model. Cleaning pumps that deal with clean water are most suitable for tanks, ponds, and light drainage, whereas vortex pumps and dirty water pumps should be used when there is dirt in the water.

This needs to be considered before deciding which pump to use.

Selecting the right Drainage & Sump Pump is based on the volume of water, depth of the pit, flow required, vertical lift required, size of pipe required, and whether you need automatic float control.

A pump which is not powerful enough may find it difficult to cope with high volumes of water, whereas one that is too powerful might be overkill for a small pit and infrequent use.
