What does a jet pump do?

In short, it is for moving clean water out of shallow wells, rainwater or storage tanks. You will find them put to use in all sorts of ways: from lawn and garden irrigation to domestic supply, pressure boosting and general water transfer.

Is one a good fit for a rainwater tank?

Yes. Jet pumps are commonly used with rainwater tanks when installed correctly. For best performance, position the pump close to the tank with short, direct suction pipework and, where possible, keep the pump inlet at or slightly below the tank outlet. Avoid long suction runs, tight bends and high pump placement, as these can reduce pressure and cause priming issues.

What about using a jet pump for the garden?

Yes, they are very popular for turf and garden work as long as the water coming from your tank or other shallow source is clean. You will want to be check that the unit can deliver the flow rate and operating pressure your sprinklers, sprays or drip zones require.
